Robert X. Cringely is the author of Accidental Empires, the course-book for the first module of "You, Your Computer and The Net", an Open University course I am currently taking. The book details in a very entertaining and informative fashion the history of the PC. I am pleased ot find that PBS this site gives an archive of articles he has recently written.

An interesting article in the Observer on the nature of happiness

Art Buchwald in the Washington Post has some fun regarding the very serious story that due to offshore tax-dodging, 60% of Fortune 500 companies did not pay a penny in tax last year. He includes the following Socratic exchange:

"But how can they call themselves good Americans?"

"Their stockholders consider them good Americans, and that's good enough for people who are only interested in the bottom line."

"Hold it. How can we fight a war in Iraq and other places if they refuse to finance it?"

"If President Bush wanted them to pay for it, he wouldn't have given them a tax cut."
